Wat Pho & The Reclining Buddha

Trips & Sights
The famous reclining Buddha at Wat Pho is the largest Buddha statue in all Thailand. The Wat is also the largest in Thailand and the one with the most Buddha Statues. It is also considered the birthplace of Thai Massage. Located in the center of Bangkok it is easily accessible and a destination that no one should miss when coming to the capital. Also it is located right next to the imperial palace which is an attraction by itself.

The overall area is quite large and has many buildings of different size. There are many statues depicting Yoga positions and also a few guardian figures.
The height, size and shape of the buildings differs a lot and each one is decorated in great detail ith ceramic shards and flower patterns.
The reclining buddha has its own building which walls are also painted in great detail. The feet of the Buddha as well as his eyes are inlayed with mother of pearl. The feet show the 108 auspicious signs of Buddha.
There is a long row of jars along the wall where people drop coins in each of them as creating a sound permanently echoing through the large hall. Outside are small statues on which people stick leafgold as a donation.
