Vienna - Palmenhaus

Architecture
The Palmenhaus in Vienna [Map] is one of several buildings of this type. It hosts a restaurant, a Butterfly terrarium and an event hall. It is part of the famous Hofburg and located right next to the Albertina Museum and the Opera. Its metal construction is offering a wide range of architectural details and a terrific place to spend the afternoon, be it inside or under sunroofs in summer outside.

The overall interior is quite spacious. Due to the glass ceiling it has a friendly and natural atmosphere that is quite uncommon in Vienna's other several hundred year old buildings with thick walls and antique flair. The industrial design reflected in the simplicity of the lamps and general interior together with the decorative elements in the construction are an interesting sight. The decent coloring and un-intrusive hight are leaving lot to explore without poking every detail into your eyeball.
But not only decorative pieces can be found, also the construction itself is decorated with care. The pillars and side beams are all in a fitting decor to the interior and plants.
The exterior is also worth a look. Several statues can be found on the front, and roof and give the whole building a more majestic look over all. In addition, it fits much better in its surrounding.
Due to its prominent location, the Palmenhaus is always full. Be it Viennese businesspeople or artists reserving their space for lunch and dinner, all leftover places are taken by tourists. The food is excellent and prices for main courses vary around 15-20 Euros. They also feature a long list of wines. Several times a months the whole place becomes a clubbing location which specializes in events that are a bit off the mainstream.
