Szechuan kitchen is one of the spiciest that you can find in China. Food that you order may come in a bowl, covered by a mountain of chili peppers that were cooked with the food. The spice is considered to be very healthy and several spices like Szechuan pepper give this cooking style a special taste. Szechuan means something like four rivers, so watch for this sign: 四川. In Soho, there is a small but very tasty restaurant, called "Chongqing Szechuan Cuisine". Chongqing is a municipality next to Szechuan area which is famous for excellent food. They have only about 5 tables, so you want to reserve in case you plan to go there after 20:00. The appetizers cost around 70 and main courses around 100 HKD. On this page you can download the menu and order food for delivery. When you go there, make sure to stop by the restroom and to see the turtles they keep in an aquarium!Address: Ground Floor, 27-29 Elgin Street, Soho, Central HK, Tel: 852-2810 8868 |
There are many Indian Restaurants in central. Some have big signs outside advertising, and some are more difficult to find. At the end restaurants have windows so you can see how it looks like from the outside. The "India Today" restaurant in Soho is hard to find and also not to be looked in through a window. However, the food is truly delicious. The menu is over 80 dishes long (thanks for the numbering btw.) and serves everyone with his favorite dish. Dishes are reasonably priced between 50 (Vegetarian) and 80 HKD (Seafood). During weekdays, they have a very good buffet at 68.- and weekends a set lunch.Phone: 2801 5959, Email: indiatoday@khazaano.com.hk Naozen is surely one of the Japanese restaurants that take its business more serious than many other places in HK. You realize that already when you see it from the outside, and the inside goes along with it. Without overdoing it, they put a great effort in making it look just like so many places in tokyo, where the look & feel of ancient Japan is copied to create a comfortable and stylish setting. This place is aparently owned by a Japanese (unlike so many other Japanese restaurants) and even some of the chefs seem to be (which is usually not even the case in expensive Hotel-Sushibars). The sushi is excellent and the service friendly. Beeing overrun during workday lunchtime by businesspeople, his place offers a 20% discount on weekends and holidays and 15% for people finishing lunch before 12:45 and wireless Internet on top. If you want to fill your stomach with a sushi/sashimi-mix, you might have to spend 600 to 700 HKD which are definetely worth it. The place offers a wide variety of other dishes also. The SoHo Spice is offering an exiting mix of Vietnamese and Thai kitchen. The portions are quite big, so if you want one of the great desserts you might want to skip the appetizer. A large variety of meats, fish, soupd and salads make this place something for everyone. They also offer a small garden and a connection to the Italian restaurant next door in case you dont want to pay your bill.. which wont happen since the prices are reasonable for the quality/size ratio. An appetizer and a main course will be around 200 HKD. |
