Galapagos Landscapes

Galapagos
Landscapes on the Galapagos Islands are quite particular due to the volcanic history and the fact that there are many different climates to find, depending of the side and height of an island. From desert to jungle, you can find almost everything.

On every island, there are landing points where the dingies of the larger ships can land. There, you will also always find a large stone describing that this island is a natural preserve. All over the region you can see how the lava was flowing over centuries and molding the rock, creating layers and black lines on the whit sand.
There are many craters on the islands some with salt-water, some with sweet water. On many sites you can see carvings of sailors, depicting the year, here is the oldest, 1836
Similarly you can find the name "Radio", a boat's name carved in on one of the rocks, and allegedly Radio's motor on another island where the ship sunk on the shore later. Black sand on volcanic beaches are quite special view. At least you can see every corn later to clean your clothes properly...
The heavy rocks and flat beaches and lava formations create interesting formations on the beaches. Small pebbled or larger stones roll with ever wave and tide and drill holes into the underground. Moss is growing and make a square meter look like a satellite picture of a whole continent.
The contrasting sceneries give all impressions from strange to nice: A rock looking like a praying monk, sand contrasting with stone having very similar structure, Lava and desert fields.
There are Lava-Tubes all over the islands, some of which you can walk through. Whoever has been to Hawaii before will remark a striking similarity in climatic and landscape.
Many smaller ones can be seen also, partly intact and some cracked open. On the last picture here you can see the the rock rusting red because of its metal composition.
Often you encounter surreal shapes and craters which could be a backdrop for the next Mars-mission!
