Steampunk Keyboard - Moving the present into the past to make it look like the future

The Steampunk movement has moved far since people take screwdrivers and heavy tools to make their home look like a science fiction novel from 1850. Building your own brass keyboard that looks like a typewriter but steers you water-cooled high-speed machine through the internet is an endevour that leaves others wondering why so many people spend so much money for branded massproduced gadgets but not more companies offer the "pimp my home" services for those of us who would cut their head off in the process of making such a contraption by themselves.
